Officer Cadets

AICO-1	Newly Enrolled Pilot – Next BFT Phase I	Officer Cadet (vOCdt)
Officer Cadet: This rank is for pilots who have joined the virtual Canadian Air Force. All O’Cdt pilots must pass a Basic Flight Training Test in order to proceed with further training.

Commissioned Officers

AICO-1	Phase I (BFT) Training Complete – Next Phase II Multi-engine, Rotary or Jets.	Second Lieutenant (v2Lt)
Second Lieutenant: This rank is held by pilots who have successfully passed Basic Flight Training. All pilots will route to either; Multi-Engine, Helicopter, or Jet Training. Selection is based on initial application.
AICO-2	Phase II Training Complete – Next Phase III/IV Operational Training - 50 hours plus as v2Lt	Lieutenant (vLt)
Lieutenant: This rank is held by pilots who have successfully passed Phase II of either; Multi-Engine, Helicopter, or Jet Training. This promotion is granted upon gaining the required hours, and check flight with primary flight instructor.
AICO-3	Junior Officer/Operational Pilot – 150 hours plus as vLt	Captain (vCapt)
Captain: This rank is held by Junior Officer Pilots with significant flying experience, and have gained over 150 hours piloting with the vCAF. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
AICO-4	Senior Officer/Operational Pilot – Based on position (~300 hours)	Major (vMaj)
Major: This rank is held by Senior Officer Pilots with a significant number of piloting hours, which exceed 300 hours total time, and who are eligible for Squadron Commander positions. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
AICO-5	Junior Staff Officer - Squadron Commander	Lieutenant Colonel (vLCol)
Lieutenant Colonel: This rank is held by Junior Staff Officers in charge of specific Squadrons of the vCAF. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
AICO-6	Senior Staff Officer – Wing Commander	Colonel (vCol)
Colonel: This rank is held by Senior Staff Officers in charge of specific Wings of the vCAF. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.

General Officers

AIGO-1	Senior Staff Officer – Directorate General	Brigadier General (vBGen)
Brigadier General: This rank is held by Senior Staff Officers in charge specific Directorates of the vCAF. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
AIGO-2	Senior Staff Officer – Air Command General	Major General (vMGen)
Major General: This rank is held by a Senior Staff Officer in charge of an Air Command. It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
AIGO-3	Chief of Staff (CAS) – Commander of Air Command	Lieutenant General (vLGen)
Lieutenant General: This rank is held by the Commander of Air Command and the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS). It is awarded by Chief Staff appointment.
